If you have never knitted socks before then this video will help you. Alexis had dyed some lovely speckled sock yarn and that got us all talking about socks and thinking we should make some . It was winter and very cold! Hand knitted socks are warm, comfortable and durable. There were discussions about how to turn the heel and how we did that. There were discussions about which needles to use and why. Some use dpns (double pointed needs ) and others used round needles. In the end you do what suits you. There was a lot of discussion about which yarn. 4ply is better unless you really want very thick socks. You also need some nylon mixed in with the yarn so the socks will last if you are going to be walking around in them inside shoes. Lots of socks are great just for indoor wear but if you want to use them as everyday wear they need a bit of nylon. it then came to colours…That was a long discussion. Everyone loves their own idea of sock colour and pattern and it is interesting how differently people think about something as unassuming as socks. They are now a thing!
