This exhibition and expo is held in Port Noarlunga, one of the lovely beach areas south of Adelaide. The 2019 Beanies to Berets exhibition will run from 5 July 2019 – 29 July 2019. The Textile Expo is to be held on Saturday 6 July 2019, 10am – 4pm and fleece will be available there too. Details are on the Onkaparinga council website. It is an opportunity to create and celebrate wearable headwear and for stall holders to have an opportunity to sell their textile based products.
The people in Seaford Spinners and Weavers love where they live and have contributed strongly to it. Having this blog is starting to uncover the sorts of things they have been doing. Janette features in one of the council videos for positive ageing and the Every Generation event for the Onkaparinga City council. She has had a life time commitment to the area and to helping young people learn to love spinning and knitting as much as she does. Cathy has been on the Onkaparinga Consultative Committee which ran the active ageing expo where Seaford Spinners and Weavers had a booth to advertise themselves and what they do. We do have some really good textile arts people in the area. Cathy is also featured in the video for the Onkaparinga Living Smart SA course which was about sustainability and the environment. We care about our community and love it and want to see it thrive. Or group is about lifelong learning. Janette sums it up when she talks about bridging the generations through something you are passionate about. Her contribution to Beach Road has been important because it is a significant part of Christies Beach and how it could transition into the new era it is now enjoying. We seem to know how to get ourselves on film! Janette also features in the recognition video. Congratulations to her for being acknowledged for all the work she has done for our area.
