Maria was knitting some lovely socks on 2.25 needles with 60 stitches and we thought they were for children until she stretched the wool! The Opal sock yarn she was using comes at around $20 a ball but is designed to have a good visual impact just by knitting it. Opal is a German yarn which is part of a community initiative to support sheep farmers, the wool industry, yarn and textile artists and then people who want good quality wool. The video is in German but if you don’t speak German just turn the sound down and watch it. It is about how this wool is made. The Knitting Squirrel teaches you how to make socks but also gives the story behind Opal sock yarn .
